This project established a historical imagery mosaic for 1991-92 Lincoln County.
Ayres Associates provided Lincoln County, Wisconsin with historical imagery georeferencing services in 2023. The original aerial photography was collected in 1991 and 1992 by the Wisconsin DNR, which were then scanned, indexed, and provided to Ayres by the Robinson Map Library and the DNR Merrill Ranger Station. The imagery was delivered in single tile Geotifs and MrSIDs, township MrSIDs, and a project-wide MrSID mosaic. The imagery was delivered according a 4-section tile schematic.

Images were color corrected to match adjacent flight lines. The resulting imagery was globally tilted in terms of contrast and color to form a radiometrically consistent orthophoto mosaic.
These data cover the entirety of the 2023 Lincoln County Orthophotography Initiative.
The original aerial photography was collected in 1991 and 1992 by the Wisconsin DNR. The historic images were provided by the Robinson Map Library and the DNR Merrill Ranger Station and each individual frame was georeferenced against a county-wide MrSID mosaic generated from Lincoln County in 2020 as part of the Wisconsin Regional Orthophotography Consortium (WROC). Control points were selected on the county-wide MrSID mosaic and matched to a commonly shared location on the historic image. The control points were spaced in effort to cover the entirety of the frame and to minimize the standard error. The georeferenced images were mosaicked using manual seamline generation and tone/color balanced to a project-wide consistency. Four-section tiles were extracted from the mosaic and each individual tile was reviewed for artifacts and anomalies adjusted as part of quality control procedures. When necessary, local corrections were performed to minimize such effects.
